2. bitdefender_antivirus_2008_32b (bitdefender antivirus 2008) = 34.1 MB size

3. kav7.0.1.325en (kapersky 7.1) = 29.6 MB size

Which of these are trial versions ? Is the bitdefender full version ? Which among these 3 is the best ?

When i try to instal bitdefender, it checks for new version and asks me whether to download the new version .. I heard bitdefender is the best in 2008 survey, is it true ?

I was at a website and all of the sudden, what looked like a legitimate Windows message box popped up that said ''If your computer is infected, you could suffer data loss, erratic PC behaviour, PC freezes and crahes. Detect and remove viruses before they damage your computer.'' (behavior and crashes were misspelled in the message box) It goes on to say that XP antivirus will check my computer for free, when I hit cancel it took me to a page with another (cheesey looking) message box and is asking me to download the file. I'm sure I shouldn't download, but even when I click the ignore button I get 'do you want to run or save this file', I hit cancel and am taken back to the cheesey looking message box. Do I have a virus? Am I at risk? How do I close that page?

I was trying to download a video when all the sudden some anstivirus thing poped up and I tried to ignore it and not download the video anymore but it was too late now I cant do anything on the net unless i buy what is ''Antivirus 2008'' and so my sister used her credit card to buy but still cant get it to stop popping up and I cant go on the internet. I contacted my broadband provider and they said I must ''uninstall'' what is known to be ''Norton''. I dont know how and I dont know what to do! I jus bought this computer BRAND NEW a week ago! This is an easy one, Click on the windows icon on the bottom left, go to control panel on the lower right, go to uninstall a program and select norton it is going to ask you if you are sure a bunch of times and have you restart it too. Your computer should work after this but I recomend gettting a new antivirus soon.

Somehow some advertisements have gotten onto my computer. I use Firefox, but someone who'd used IE got onto a page that downloaded some ads. I have checked the computer for spyware, bots, and viruses, and all my programs say the computer is clean, yet these things still keep coming up in IE windows. I want to completely disable IE so that this can't continue to happen. Here are the steps I've taken (but they're not enough because IE windows keep coming up).

1-Used Ad-Aware to deep clean my computer for ads and other spyware.

2. Used Spybot S%26D to get rid of bots.

3.Went to control panel%26gt;add/remove programs%26gt;windows components%26gt;and from there I disabled Internet Explorer.

4.Used two different antivirus programs to sweep my computer for viruses.

Even after disabling IE, I STILL have these annoying pop-up windows advertising things in an IE browser. What's more is I can surf the net from those pages, in IE! So...what do I do to solve this problem? I use Windows XP if that helps.

I would not go near entering any personal information on a windows ME machine. #1 support for many if not all ME products are discontinued by the respective manufacturers. I assume you have tried different virus scanners.

Once you have a clean build, make a note of all the start up items (save a log file from HijackThis -free download-just google it), then again after the infection has set in. This will also list the running processes. (maybe some clues there??)

I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware both spyware killers for years. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans etc. AVG does not slow the system down as much as some other products and Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. You should only have 1 anti virus, so you need to unisntall Madesafe. The best way to uninstall a program and make space on your hard drive is to use Ccleaner. So download and install that.

It's because somehow your home page was set for yahoo web search page. To get it of it next time after you open the browser (IE) go to Tools, Internet Option. On the General tab you can set your home page to Blank page or any web site you like and click OK.

Zonealamr is good, norton sux. ESET is highly reccomended to look into. For Free, drop oneare uninstalling it today. I have no virus protection and I am doing fine. If you have no precious data hackers wont bother you. Go with something cheap if you have nothing important on your computer.

It will also scan and find the viruses in your computer, only it finds the hardcore viruses, such as Trojin Horse viruses, or just Trojon viruses. This program will also find the smaller, but still effective viruses, that are in your computer.

These programs are to be put into the computer, but not installed. They are actually used to ''trick'' the computer into thinking that there is a computer game being put into the tower.

Problem with Avast Antivirus?

I downloaded the free edition of Avast but then it seemed to cause some of my programs to shut down. I decided to unistall it, but then I couldn't find the setup utility. I tried every program I had to get rid of it and in the end I just deleted all the files from program files and cleaned the registry.

Anyways, later on I got a virus that wouldn't let me open my other antivirus and I ended up reseting my operating system.

Have you ever found a program with a missing uninstallation utility? Should I just have used the original setup file to uninstall the program? What should I do if I decide to try Avast again and there's no uninstallation program?

First problem. You appear to have had TWO Anti-virus programs running at the same time. This never works because each Anti-virus thinks the other IS a virus. And this may also explain why the original Avast un-install failed. Second problem, you tried to remove Avast manually. This requires expert skills.

So, download Avast again, but do not install it yet. Then, re-boot your PC in Safe Mode. And, using Add / Remove programs, un-install it, then re-boot normally and all should be well.

TIP: As counter-intuitive as this sounds, it actually works.

I don't know about Norton. I have been using Zone Alarm as a firewall for years. And it do excellent. Then I have installed Antivir as an antivirus programm. Additionally some spyware and adware-stuff. And so far, that has been sufficient.

All for free, and it's updated regularly

I have EZ trust antivirus. It takes forever to scan. I dont think its working very well, either. I changed some things on the firewall yesterday and ever since then I've been having so many problems with the computer. Its funny, cause I changed stuff to protect the computer more, but it just messed it up. Finally got most of the kinks worked out.

So a while ago, I got spybot S%26D. It works fine but forgot I had it. This week, I kept getting this yellow bar at the top of IE that said your computer might be infected with spyware, click here to fix. Or something like that. I never clicked it cause I dont know if it was my computer telling me that or some random internet thing. So I scanned my comp with ez. I googled spyware and found spyware doctor (pc tools) and that stuff said it was a GREAT thing. So I downloaded it. Then after it found problems, it wanted MONEY to fix it! That just ticked me off a little. I bought it and have been using it this week. Hold for more..

If there is a limit to amount of times you can download the installer, my advice is: when you download the installer, save it or burn it into a disk (don't delete the installer).

Download either Zone Alarm or Comodo.

These firewalls will block both in coming and out going connections whereas the built-in firewalls only block those coming in.

I use Avast and it is pretty good, but it does use a lot of resources and keeps checking everything constantly, a bit like Nortons.. If you are not using Vista, you might consider Avir or AVG.

To add to your firewall protection you should also have anti-malware programs running, Adware, Spysweeper are two that come to mind.

I tried to download and install a trial version of Zone Alarm security suite and it's telling me that I have ''Computer Associates Antivirus'' installed on my computer and I would have to remove it in order to install the Zone Alarm.

Today, i had found only 2 threats (security risks) in my system. I went to the symantec antivirus and went to the risk history. There were 2 of them. I clicked on it and click delete, but it took no action, i had tried many other things but it was still the same. I scanned my whole PC system, and found 0 risk or viruse. Most malicious sites will come at you with javascript but there are exploits for java, flash, quicktime, etc. With use % probably in that order. But I wouldn't know nothing about anything like that. lol If you are having trouble locating your problem try Hijackthis and paste the results and see if there is anything executing.

From my experience once microsoft download starts a download it will continue downloading the selected files even after you turn of the selection. It will not start a new slection but will continue with the old one to the bitter end

Norton anti-virus is one of the best anti-viruses out there. It should replace your other anti-viruses. You can try restarting your whole computer. Its what i did. i got the boot cd and reboot my laptop to out-of-box state. Then it was better than before. Just be sure to get all of pictures, music, and documents off that computer and onto another computer.

Sorry if someone told you Norton is good. If you go with either AVG or Avast (both free) you will find your computer will be better protected.

In addition run spy-bot and first update it then don't use the tea timer, next remove all it finds, then immunize.

I have Windows Vista Business and I have used Windows Live OneCare for a year. It has worked fine, but now the subscription is running out. It will cost me $50 for another year, or should I use a totally different Antivirus, antispyware, and antimalware program? Are there cheaper alternatives that work better/faster/easier/use less resources? I have heard there are some free ones, but I am not sure about how quickly they update their databases, how well they work, and I don't trust trialware. I have tried Ca antivirus to and i dont care for that one either cuase i picked up lots of trojans all the time Ca never caught any of them.

I tried the Ca firewall to and it was very hard to get off my system. I think i had to download something and then go into safe mode to remove it i cant recall for sure but it was a pain.So if any one wants to put Ca firewall on i would think twice and not do it.

i havent tried avg or any other free one yet.

i have a guy in my town that puts together and fixes pcs and stuff like that. He said that avg dont work very well or none of the free ones. He says that cause he goes to people's houses to fix pcs and someone that had avg got a virus and it destroyed his semos of the pc or the head part of the pc.

I agree. Kaspersky is the best anti-virus by far. But it is expensive. But ZoneAlarm Security Suite (not the firewall) uses the Kaspersky engine as the anti-virus component of the suite, so its a good one too.

If you are looking for a free anti-virus, I would suggest Avira AntiVir庐 PersonalEdition Classic. It has excellent heuristics, a virus detection rate that is better than most ''paid-for'' anti-virus programs and is light on using your computer's resources. Uses less then 10 MB RAM on my machine. And did I mention that it's free for life! Oh, yeah I did! Works great on my Vista box, too.

Make sure you really are connected at your correct speed.

My Qwest DSL drops its connection pretty much weekly. When it reconnects its always connects at a slower speed. I have to reset it (reboot) my modem so it well reconnect at the fast speed.

Your DSL provider might be congested or VISTA might be screwing with it. Norton is a really BAD Security program get CA internet suite. It wont slow you down at all and updates are done daily to make sure your well protected. you might want to check your Ethernet adapter has the latest drivers and it might be going or is defective so chekc those things out when it doubt buy a new adapter there only like 20-30 buck for a descent one.

Vista could be the problem as it is a very demanding program. And it even could be norton has that is a big resource hog for some people. You may want to uninstal it from their web site with the removal tool and swich to AVG, it's free and works a lot better.

You must have genuine Windows XP w/service pack 2 to download; if not genuine, no download. Also, did you do all the updating of Windows before you tried to download IE7. You can go to the MS IE site to be sure your computer meets all the requirements for the download

On my computer in the bottom right hand corner there is always a blinking red question mark with it blinking from question to arrow. It keeps saying my system is infected and tells me to go to antimalware to download their software, an advertisement of course. Just don't forget to set your KAV for hourly updates as KAV updates its virus definitions 12-15 times every day!

Well, I programed one recently, however if you are running Windows Vista, it wont work.

What it does is it writes a new piece of information to your boot sector, then starts out with a 1x1 sized pixel bouncing around your screen. Then, it gets larger every day until it is 200x200 pixels, folds out and says your computer has been terminated. When you try to restart your computer, it won't boot into the OS and just displays ''Sorry, your computer has been TERMINATED!!! HAHAHA!'' on your screen. It is fixed by taking apart your computer, and removing the clock battery to reset your motherboard. Then you got to delete the program, or it will do it again. (Vista blocks it from writing to boot sector).

I don't want to go to jail though, so I don't give it out.

(Tested it on Vista. Vista cought it before it could even get started. And that was without an anti-virus program).

Well I have a P2MMX 200mhz , 32 MB ram, 4GB HDD, with MS Office 2000, installed Download Accelarator Plus, and Registry Cure, used for the purpose of training young people. Now after i did a format with my new copy of win98se, my computer started hanging whenever i try to download a file larger that 2MB. My older copy of WIN98se cannnot be installed due a lot of scratches on the disk. This problem still persist if i use another browser like Mozilla Firefox. Please advise

Normally the size of the file download capabilities are restricted by your ISP, not your IE6. Check with them to see if they have any limitations on the size of the file you can transfer/send.

I have read a lot of pages about these kids like 14-18 making virus's and distrubuting them to there school's server. My son's school uses PowerSchool and PowerGrade to manage the attendence and grades but they run on the same server as the students accounts do, so are they that stupid that they may be puting there grades, social security numbers, telephone numbers, and all the other stuff the school stores on the server? You might let the school know what you've read about so they can beef up their security. Many times, the school server can stop a lot of information that is illegally being sent to the school and can detect 'virus' activity.... so it's stopped at the mainframe (before it hits the student's computers). when you reinstall windows, do you do it from a master backup. I used to do that but i found that it does not get rid of your ''my documents'' and just reinstalls xp over the top. The only way i managed to sort mine was to completely format the hard drive and reinstall xp from an original xp install disk. I then just started again. I did however go through all my docs and take all the pictures that i know are good and not corrupted and save them to cd to copy back onto my pc once windows was reinstalled.
