Are the standard firewalls/ norton, etc worth the money are are there some freeware versions as good

is the windows xp firewall adequate protection...and then downloading a freeware antivirus/spyware program

seems like we are spending a lot of money for our Norton subscription .............sorry i am cheap!

I don't know about Norton. I have been using Zone Alarm as a firewall for years. And it do excellent. Then I have installed Antivir as an antivirus programm. Additionally some spyware and adware-stuff. And so far, that has been sufficient.

All for free, and it's updated regularly
